David and Nga Battersby opened their first business “Just Good Kai” in 1988 in sunny Hokowhitu. Seeing an unmet local demand for organic focussed foods with high quality local ingredients they developed a menu that would see them become a core part of life in Hokowhitu. This menu has evolved along with the local agricultural trends and sustainability best practices and the couple are always looking for new innovations and inspirations.
The motto of the café is “Whangaihia to tinana ki te kai organic” which translates to “nourish your body with organic kai”.
Nga spends much of her time with local suppliers while David runs the shop. Though their days are full of hard mahi, they love to see the smiles of those lucky enough to try their food.
